Now, I'm not a Facebook buddy, friend, or whatever they are called these days, but I just might have to get on board. Jim Needham's Facbook survey has not only gotten the attention of Clackamas County voters, but also Clackamas County government. I guess they don't like folks being given the opportunity to critique their performance. As reported in the Portland Tribune article Will the real Clackamas County Facebook page step forward?, the County may not have liked him giving a choice of "deplorable" as one of the survey options. Hey, when it comes to surveys on government, I think a rating of "deplorable" should be a required option.

Will the real Clackamas County Facebook page step forward?
After receiving a January 25, 2010 request from Mr. Tim Heider, Clackamas County Public Affairs Coordinator, I immediately took action to amend his concern regarding confusion of the FaceBook fan page for "Clackamas County" with an "official" Clackamas County FaceBook fan page even though there wasn't an "official" Clackamas County page.
Mr. Heider subsequently added a link on the “Clackamas County” fan page to the "Official" Clackamas County fan page, January 28, 2010, which added two images which "are trademarked and cannot be disseminated without express permission from the county". He then notified me that "Someone posted county logos to the fan photos section of the Clackamas County Facebook page". I immediately removed these images after creating PDF files to show him that he had added the images. It soon became clear to me that what I had created as a public service was generating contentious innuendoes that I was somehow conspiring to mislead "fans".
To clarify my intent I added the following comment under the "Community Survey" entry:
"With all due respect to Susan and Patricia, I confess that I, Jim Needham, set up the Clackamas County Fan group, the Molalla Fan group, the Molalla Christian Church Fan group, the Molalla Kiwanis Fan group, the Molalla Community Unity Fan group and the PNW Builders Fan group. I may also set up other Fan groups to utilize the great potential I see for keeping the public informed and engaged through Social Networking.
Out of humility I have avoided proclaiming myself as the creator of these groups because I believe it is more important to keep the public informed and engaged than to be perceived as attempting to glorify myself. I would not now be making any 'personal' statement, on this site, except to clarify innuendos being made to distort my efforts to inform and engage all who have an interest in Clackamas County or any of the other groups I have created."
I had also requested that a number of respectable members of the community become administrators of the site, Those who responded indicated they didn't have the time and/or the expertise to do so. I am disappointed that the posted statement "Malicious or contentious material not solicited or tolerated." was not as effective as I'd hoped.
