Frankly, I'm stunned. How cold and thoughtless do you have to be to make a joke out of someone's death? But he did. He really did. Sheesh, what an ego he must have, to have so little room for consideration for this woman's family.
Watch this video clip...
Opposing view: If you take the effort to...
If you take the effort to watch the rest of what Obama says, you see he is not making a joke of the situation at all. It's this type of propaganda c*** we must stop. It does no one any good. Instead of putting the effort into stuff like this, we should be trying to work together to fix America.
Watch the rest of the video here.
Not only tasteless, but deceptive usury of the dead
wlsjmb thinks the joke is on us, I guess?
He most certainly crack a tasteless joke, and the audience knew it. What he said after that in no way altered, or refuted, that crass and self-serving remark.
Of course, we could ask how he got a letter, a note, from a dead woman... but that's entirely beside the point. He's got an ego as large as Chicago, and the sensitivity of a boulder rolling downhill.
Yeah, I agree: the propaganda should stop. Unfortunately, I suspect Obama will keep on doing it -- using such stories, real or created -- because he prefers to use anecdotes over statistics.
Sorry, but that's not what you mean. You mean that we should join with Obama and do what he wants, because he knows best. That is simply partisan hogwash. Conservatives and liberals have very different understandings of what works, and there is absolutely no sense in abandoning principles to just "do" something.
To conservatives, Obama's vision of "universal health care" -- as codified in the bills we've seen so far -- is an imagination of socialist redistribution with fascist control of private companies. One of the predictable -- indeed, verifiable, if you look at the history of Canada, Great Britain, France... -- results is that the woman about whom Obama joked would have been LESS likely to get diagnosed, and LESS likely to have survived, under Obamacare. Remember, this is the administration that has ALREADY suggested that women under 50 should NOT get mammograms.
That's the macabre irony of the whole video, on top of the tasteless joke of the starting segment: the woman supposedly died after working for Obama, who would institute health care that would have killed her from inattention, anyway.
Or do you not understand the inherent rationing that is central to ALL centralized health care, everywhere? Or for that matter, do you not understand the effect of making anything "free"? Seen the fine print on free offers at the grocery store, or the hardware store: "while supplies last"? Why do they do that? Because reducing price always increases demand, and utilization. Or do you comprehend the real truth underlying the quip, "If you're buying dinner, I'll have the steak."
To overcome the incentive to utilize health care which is "free", the system has no choice but to ration the delivery: waiting lists, limit on how much expenditure can be made to any individual, substitution of best-practice methods with lowest-cost methods, etc.
That's why conservatives hope to educate liberals with a more realistic approach to better health care in the U.S.: tort reform, level field for tax consequence of insurance purchased by either the individual or the employer, less government direct payment to providers....
The market works, wlsjmb. Right now liberals are screaming that it does not, but look at two parts of the health care market that are NOT covered by government expenditures: cosmetic surgery and laser-correction of vision. Both have soared in quality, and plummeted in price... just like market forces are supposed to work, when the government does not meddle.
